In the last 4 years, with the efforts from local land agencies, Moab Trails Alliance, Trail Mix and Ride With Respect, Moab has several new trails and trail systems to boast about.  There are now more trails suited to the beginner to intermediate rider than ever before.  This is great for those of you who might be intimidated by the world-famous Slickrock Trail but still want to experience Moab and its beautiful red-rock landscape. For the advanced level rider, there are also new challenging trails to push your abilities and make for an epic ride.

Moab Brands Trails, Hazzard County Trail, Salt Wash Single-track, Garden Mesa, Baby Steps, LPS and Jackson’s Trail are all new trails and trail systems, just to name a few.  With the new RMP (recreation management plan) that the BLM recently completed, there will be several more new trails added to local area maps and guidebooks.  In addition, the La Sal Mountains offer miles and miles of amazing alpine single-track.  During the summer of 2008, the Forest Service began clearing and improving trails that hadn’t been used in many years.  This has local riders smiling because escaping to the mountains in the summer months to ride is a must.  Stop by one of the local bike shops in town and pick up a trail map, guide book or get local knowledge of the various trails Moab has to offer.  There is something for everyone to explore Moab on two-wheels.

USA Cycling will officially announce later this week that the 2009 24 Hour National Championship race will be moved to Moab, Utah. The race will be held in conjunction with the 24 Hours of Moab on October 10-11.

USA Cycling has encountered some difficulty solidifing a venue for the 2009 National Championship race which was originally scheduled for Payson, Arizona and then possibly Phoenix and finally Moab.

24 Hours of Moab promoter Laird Knight confirmed with MTBracenews that Moab will indeed be the ulitmate location of the National Championship race. The long-time 24 Hour Promoter and head of Granny Gear Productions stated, “Apparently the AZ venue fell apart and USAC (USA Cycling)needed to get something nailed down that was more definite. Moab will be the perfect battle ground for a National Championship race. The course is a classic mix of high-speed double-track, ledgy, technical sections and power-sucking sand-traps.”

In addition, Granny Gear will be hosting the 2010 National Championships at the 24-Hours of Big Bear in Hazelton, West Virginia, June 12-13, 2010.
