Road Bikes

Moab is world-renowned for its mountain biking scenery, but the weekend of March 13th the road bikes take center stage.

The ninth annual Moab Skinny Tire Festival begins Saturday morning and continues through Monday.

The festival is known as one of the biggest cancer fundraising events in the region.

“First and foremost, our goal is to put on an excellent ride,” founder Mark Griffith said in a press release.

Registration for the event is open until 1,000 riders have registered. Riders can register at SkinnyTireFestival.com.

The full ride includes all three days of riding for $90 with a minimum $90 donation, and the weekender ride on Saturday and Sunday is $70 with a minimum $70 donation.

The registration fee includes lunch.

Saturday’s ride is 37 miles on Utah Highway 279 along the Colorado River. Sunday’s ride is to Dead Horse Point State Park with an option of 64 or 46 miles. Monday’s ride is 47 miles to Arches National Park. It includes a 1,200-foot elevation gain.

All rides begin and end at Aarchway Inn, where riders can stay for a discount price of $99 each night.

All money raised goes to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. For more information on it, visit HuntsmanCancerFoundation.org.

Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers in the event.

Last year, Flint Ogle of Grand Junction was the top fundraiser.
